Ding Ding Ding

While in Vancouver, we were introduced to Boxing Day, the day after Christmas which is a holiday in and of itself in Canada and many former British colonies. Its like post-Christmas and Black Friday all wrapped into one. So of course we went shopping at 8am and got in line to a store that wasn't open yet. It wasn't as crazy as I had thought, but there are some stores that open at 5am and the line starts in the middle of the night. Here's the origin of Boxing Day:

In England many years ago, it was common practice for the servants to carry boxes to their employers when they arrived for their day's work on the day after Christmas. Their employers would then put coins in the boxes as special end-of-year gifts. This can be compared with the modern day concept of Christmas bonuses. The servants carried boxes for the coins, hence the name Boxing Day.
