Now that Arizona has an IKEA, we have made some purchases there: three closet organizers for the walk-in closet, windows shades (below), some toys, lights, a Russian wooden drawer set (see below) and a bookshelf (again below). Even the desk from which I type is IKEA-made (although I got it used of Craigslist). While IKEA seems to have everything one could need, there are some drawbacks.
- Sometimes you don't realize a box is damaged and you have to turn the car around and make another 40-mile round trip (EXPEDIT bookshelf below).
- Sometimes its pain in the booty to put the stuff together. The little wooden drawer organizer = 8 screws and 96 tiny nails. We used about 70 nails - 48 in the drawers, and 22 bent ones in the garbage can. Gracias por Elmer's wood glue.
- Sometimes IKEA's intent of not needing tools means you get a 2.5 inch long star shaped wrench and you still have to put your full weight into it to turn a lag screw 15 degrees. Repeat 24 time to make one revolution. Repeat that many times to get the last 0.5 cm into the "wood."
But we like the stuff overall and so we keep going. Next up: Bedroom set.
