After purchasing a new queen size bed frame (from Mohr Furniture - we will not be repeat customers there...) about a year and half ago, we finally decided to pony up and get an appropriately sized mattress (Costco) - the full size mattress in a queen size bed frame looks silly. We suppose that it would look down right ridiculous if we had a full mattress in king size frame.
Anyway, to be Seinfeldian, 'What is with thick mattresses? Is it a bed or is it a plateau?'
Our old full-size mattress plus box frame measured 15 inches. The new set with pillow-top is a whopping 22 inches. While 7 inches may not sound like much, it feels like a low rider version of the top bunk bed. We have to do a little hop just to get into bed and now the possibility of falling out of bed has the risk of actual bodily harm. We may have to invest in a step stool like when I was kid, but at that time my bed had two levels of built-in shelves and drawers, now there's just inch after inch of mattress. Plus where Lulu could place her head on the old mattress, begging to join us, she now disappears down below - it may be Lulu-proof.
