Cyrillic Teasings

Cyrillic is the Russian alphabet and I think its quite confusing. Other languages such as Spanish and French use the same alphabet as English as so it is a matter of learning what these new words mean. Chinese and Arabic on the other hand use a completely different alphabet/character system that my brain simply knows it cannot translate.

Cyrillic is another beast. It looks 1/3 funny letters, 2/3 normal letters. However, half of the "normal" looking letters are actually non-funny looking Cyrillic letters. Follow me?

There are a handful of words that we have seen in Cyrillic that are direct (or nearly so) conversions of English words. Here's a mini lesson.

PECTOPAH is Cyrillic and all the letters look normal right? Wrong.

Moscow is spelled MOCKBA - the C is pronounced as an S and O is "ah".

My name, Mark, is MAPK in Cyrillic - P is the Greek letter Rho and hence our R.

So letter replacing some letters:

PECTOPAH
RESTORAH - a la restaurant without the t.
